Typical Argentine barbeque is an important cultural tradition in Mendoza.
Facilities
Spanish students attend classes on the premises where they are lodged. Facilities include a sun–drenched classroom/dining room overlooking the garden, and an ample terrace that accommodates group sessions, one-on-one conversations, or students who prefer to do their “homework” outdoors.
Daily Schedule
The daily schedule, Monday through Friday, includes:
- 9:00 a.m.– 10:00: Breakfast
- 10:00 – 1:00 p.m. : Morning Spanish classes and exercises
- 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.: Lunch (Spanish conversation only, with native speakers participating)
- Afternoon: Time for homework, opportunity for practice, or cultural activity (siesta, anyone?)
- Every day: The best way to learn a language is to be surrounded by people who are speaking it. Whether you’re sipping coffee, a beer or a glass of wine in a café, shopping in the market on the corner, or having a massage or a haircut — in Mendoza you’ll be absorbing the Spanish language along with the culture all day long.
Saturday and Sunday are unscheduled, leaving free time to practice your Spanish in the local setting, visit wineries or the mountains, or attend cultural or artistic events, or just plain relax.
The Teachers
Sandra Boffi will be the primary, hands-on teacher. A native Spanish speaker, she is bilingual in English. Currently Sandra directs a language program in a private school in Mendoza. (See TEACHERS for details).
Riccardo Accurso devised the method for the program based upon practical experience teaching language in Spain and from living for years in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. He obtained a Master's degree in psycholinguistics from the University of Illinois in 1964. The approach stresses the dynamic interactions (psychological components) underlying communications, and the importance of cultural context in learning to speak a foreign language.
